6 Tips to Capture your Vacation Memories
Capturing every moment of my vacation is important to me for two reasons. One, I treasure memories shared with my family, those photographs of moments captures a part of life I cherish. Second, photographing unique cultures, architecture, people and food is something I can use as references in my designs that are my unique point of view.
In this post I have compiled 6 of my go to tips when traveling so that you are ready to capture beautiful and memorable photographs of your travels.
1. Plan a head: before leaving for your vacation, research the location and check out photos online to get an idea of the best spots to photograph. I typically use Trip Advisor for my planning! I always read the reviews from fellow travelers. If it is a place you have traveled to before, make a list of what places, people or events you want to capture.
2. Capture local architecture: Taking photographs of local architecture gives your photos a sense of place and can help you tell a story about your destination. Get in close to capture interesting features, you do not have to capture the entire building in the frame. This shot of the Biltmore House captures the beautiful windows and decorative features.
3. Photograph street scenes: Capture candid shots of your travel companions and shots of people and daily life on the streets. This will give your photos a cultural and human touch.

4. Take some landscape photographs: Capture the natural beauty of the destination by taking landscape photos. These types of photographs can include city scapes, mountains, beaches, forests, lakes and other natural features. Look for unusual views to add interest.
5. Photograph Food: This is probably one of my favorites. A great way to document local culture is to photograph food, and a yummy way to experience your vacation destination. Get in close to capture the colors and textures.

6. Take Photos of YOU: Ask a local or your waiter (like we did) to photograph you and your family or friends. Remember this special moment can be a memory, but it is so much better when you have the visual to remember it by.
I hope this post has given you some ideas and tips to capture beautiful and memorable photographs this summer even if you have a “Staycation.” I live on a beautiful lake and this summer my husband and I are going to enjoy a peaceful time around our town.
